POV: you’ve been wanting to improve in CrossFit for a while now but you feel like you’ve flatlined. Your mind gets the best of you in the middle of a WOD, strength numbers aren’t going up as they should and, in competition, you just can’t find your A-game.

You know something’s off so you talk to your coach, your workout buddies and other significant beings, but nobody seems to provide the missing key. You’re running out of ideas and, suddenly, you end up here!

What does a sport psychologist do?

First of all, one should introduce themselves: my name is Desi, I’ve been doing CrossFit since 2016, I’m a psychologist since 2017 and an L1-Trainer since 2018.

Ok, so there’s that. Now, circling back to that first question:

  1. First, I’ll find the psychological aspects that are hindering your performance. For example: competitive anxiety, irrational beliefs, stressors (injuries, failure), etc.
  2. Then, I’ll provide you with the necessary tools to reduce or eliminate the impact these factors have on your performance.
  3. Lastly, I’ll stay close to keep an eye on your progress to make sure your improvements stick around for the long run.

Sounds easy, right? Well, not really. It takes a lot of work to get our brains to cooperate. As you probably know, CrossFit – just like any other sport – is heavily influenced by the mental side of things.

It’s not always the strongest, fastest or fittest athlete that wins… but the more mentally stable. And that’s exactly what we’ll be gunning for.
